Looking back: 19th Fraunhofer seminar “Models of Lung Disease”

"Highly relevant topics and an excellent set of talks!"

On February 6 and 7, 2020, Fraunhofer ITEM once again organized the seminar “Models of Lung Disease” at the CRC Hannover – no. 19 in this series of seminars! Open to all interested persons from industry and academia, this event has long become a tradition at Fraunhofer ITEM and is one of the institute’s flagships.

Different phases of translational research were addressed in excellent presentations from the subject areas COPD and asthma, lung infection, fibrosis, and new technologies. In a total of 23 lectures, more than 120 participants from 14 different countries discussed new developments and findings and presented innovative models for lung research.

Prizes were awarded for three scientific posters

Muhammad Waqas Sadiq von AstraZeneca (Schweden) erhielt den ersten Preis für sein Poster mit dem Titel »Spatial pharmacokinetics of inhaled drugs in human lung – evaluation of regional lung targeting by direct sampling of epithelial lining fluid«.

At the end of day 1, the authors of the best three posters received prizes. Congratulations!

1st prize: Muhammad Waqas Sadiq, AstraZeneca (Sweden): "Spatial pharmacokinetics of inhaled drugs in human lung – evaluation of regional lung targeting by direct sampling of epithelial lining fluid"

2nd prize: Charlotte Pelgrim, University of Utrecht (The Netherlands): "Locomotion and behavioral changes in a murine model of COPD exacerbations"

3rd prize: Markus Rehberg, Helmholtz Zentrum München (Germany): "Lung intravital microscopy facilitates real-time in vivo investigation of particle dynamics and innate immune responses during ventilator-assisted nanoparticle inhalation"
