Cluster of Excellence for Immune-Mediated Diseases CIMD

The primary goal of the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence for Immune-Mediated Diseases is the translation of innovative ideas and identified targets into individualized therapies for immune-mediated diseases. The collaborating institutes want to bridge the existing gap from research on novel medications to what is actually available to patients.

In forward-looking projects, three Fraunhofer Institutes – Fraunhofer IME, Fraunhofer IZI, and Fraunhofer ITEM – are pooling their expertise, thereby enabling efficient translation. A substantial gain of knowledge in the pathophysiology of immune diseases will thus be generated, innovative targets will be addressed, and new treatment categories in this therapeutic area will be introduced and established.

Fraunhofer clusters of excellence

In January 2018, the first four Fraunhofer clusters of excellence were launched, dedicated to the following topics: Programmable Materials, Advanced Photon Sources, Cognitive Internet Technologies, and Immune-Mediated Diseases. These clusters are aimed at promoting cutting-edge research at Fraunhofer.

Up to four core institutes and a variable number of partner institutes collaborate in a cluster of excellence, thereby further expanding the Fraunhofer network.

The clusters of excellence have no defined location, rather do the core institutes of each cluster form a virtual institute, giving them a high degree of flexibility.

Core institutes of the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence CIMD:

Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology IME

Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology IZI

Fraunhofer Institute for Toxicology and Experimental Medicine ITEM
