Dr. Oliver Licht has been reappointed to the BfR Committee

Together with experts from federal and Länder authorities, universities, and other research institutions, Fraunhofer ITEM scientists act as external, independent consultants to the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR). In a transparent process following a public call, the experts are selected by an appointing panel based on their personal expertise and are then appointed to this honorary post by the BfR president.

For the period 2018 to 2021, Dr. Oliver Licht has been reappointed to the BfR Committee for Contaminants and other Undesirable Substances in the Food Chain. Dr. Licht has been a member of this Committee since 2014, chairing the panel on per and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS). He has been employed at Fraunhofer ITEM as a toxicologist in the Division of Chemical Risk Assessment since 2006. Focuses of his work include the derivation of health-based limit values and the assessment of industrial chemicals, biocides, and medical devices.  At present, he is involved in an EFSA-funded project using data from registrations under REACH to identify substances that could pose potential risks to the food chain.
