Apprenticeship as an animal caretaker

About us

In our animal facility, you and your team conduct animal studies with laboratory rodents such as rats, mice, and hamsters for various departments of the institute.

During your apprenticeship, you will take care of the animals kept under different housing conditions (conventional and controlled), collect samples such as blood or metabolic products, and learn a variety of administration techniques. You will also gain solid knowledge of hygiene procedures, breeding methods, and feed management – all in close cooperation with the vocational school.

Cleaning, maintaining, and servicing the animal facility rooms and equipment are also part of your tasks, as well as transporting loads of up to 30 kg.

By exchanging knowledge with other research institutions, you will continuously expand your expertise. You will work in a team of eight colleagues and three other apprentices – so you are never on your own. We are confident that we can offer you an attractive and varied apprenticeship position.

Key information, focus areas, vocational school

You can look forward to a solid and comprehensive apprenticeship, supported and guided by experienced experts. You are not on your own: through our apprentice network, you can connect with other trainees, exchange ideas, and support one another.

To help you get off to a strong start, you benefit from the wide range of development opportunities within the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft – and you also have access to our e-learning tool, allowing you to continue learning flexibly at any time.
