Session 7 with Emiel Rorije on October 27, 2022 within the series “Future predictive models – alternative methods to animal testing”

In this session, Emiel Rorije will talk about the concepts of quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSARs) and in silico methods for the prediction of toxicological properties in general. Furthermore, the implementation of these theoretical models in regulatory toxicology will be discussed using the recent development of the OECD Defined Approaches for Skin Sensitization as an example to outline the usage possibilities of in silico predictive methods.

Fraunhofer CIMD platform initiative “Alternative methods to animal testing”

Research projects in the life sciences are based on increasingly multifaceted and interdisciplinary methods and often on a close combination of animal experiments with non-animal methods. The principle of the 3Rs that is valid for all researchers – to replace, reduce and consistently refine animal experiments – also governs research at Fraunhofer. Within the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Immune-Mediated Diseases CIMD, an initiative of the competence platform ”Alternative methods to animal testing”, managed by Fraunhofer ITEM, has been established. At the end of March, the initiative started the lecture series ”Future predictive models – alternative methods to animal testing”.
